LONG CREEK, S.C. -- Officials say the body of a rafter from Florida missing for more than two weeks has been recovered from the Chattooga River in Oconee County.
At a news conference Friday, officials with the U.S. Forest Service said rescuers had recovered the body of Thomas Hill of Tampa, Fla.
Hill was participating in a company retreat that included a guided rafting tour June 19 when he fell overboard in the Sock 'Em Dog rapids. Rescuers pulled his body from the water just before noon Friday. Three other people also went into the river. They tried to help Hill, but he never resurfaced.
Search crews had located the body of Hill twice but were unable to recover it because of higher-than-normal water levels and bad weather.
