Amid scandal, Weiner tours storm-damaged NYC home

NEW YORK (AP) ? New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner met Superstorm Sandy victims on Staten Island as he tried to move past the sexting scandal threatening to derail his attempted political comeback.

The former congressman traveled to the furthest reaches of the city Friday to tour the ruined home of Joseph Cardinale, who is still struggling to rebuild after the deadly storm knocked his house off its foundation.

But even in that setting Weiner couldn't escape the scandal. Neighborhood resident Peg Brunda confronted the candidate, telling him he didn't have the "moral authority" to lead the city.

Weiner said he just wants to give residents a chance to decide for themselves.

So far Weiner has resisted calls for him to abandon the race.
