Jon's Blog: UCC Piece: "Why Gay Marriage is Good for the USA" VS ...

One month ago, United Church of Christ pastor, Rev. Robert Apgar-Taylor, wrote an opinion piece titled "Why Same-Gender Marriage is Good for America." He is a Maryland-based pastor who decided to write a response to an assertion that equal marriage rights threatens the very institution of Marriage itself. He, like I and many other marriage equality advocates, questioned the truthiness of this belief. In fact, Rev. Apgar-Taylor ended up writing that marriage equality is actually a wonderful thing for all Americans:
This discussion has forced us to confront the true meaning of marriage. I heard a politician on the news a few years ago state, "Everyone knows marriage is about having children. It has nothing to do with love!" Really? I hope he has informed his wife of this. Marriage in fact is not about having children nor is it really about love as an emotion. It is about covenant, mutual respect and commitment. It is not an institution that depends on emotional state or on procreative abilities. (If it were, we would have required fertility testing prior to marriage long ago.) And to be honest, can anyone really say that his or her marriage is personally fulfilling and loving every moment of every day? Are you always happy to be married? Of course not. Marriage is about coming together as two people and committing hearts and lives through both good times and bad. It is not about feeling love but about deciding to love. I am committed to be with my husband through whatever life brings us, not just when it feels good to do so. As a person of faith, I promise to love him, even in those moments when I don't feel loving or when either of us are not being very "lovable," and in so doing, I strive to mirror for him just a glimpse of what God's love is like. Let me be clear: being gay or lesbian is not a choice. The choice is in living an authentic life that gives witness to the love of God in and through all our relationships. Marriage is the highest of those relationships...

Having full marriage equality is not a threat to marriage. Not having it is. This decision (hopefully) forces us to celebrate and come to terms with the reality that marriage is not about romantic love, happiness and years full of wine and roses. That is Hallmark, not reality. Don't misunderstand me: Feeling romantic love is wonderful. Children are indeed a blessing. But marriage is really about two persons committing themselves to each other in ways that mirror true unconditional love, mutual respect and support through whatever storms life brings their way. Then, and only then, is the institution of marriage strengthened "as God intended it to be."

It shouldn't really surprise any readers of my blog, but I agree with Rev. Apgar-Taylor. Check out the link for the rest of his piece.

Sadly (yet predictably), Rev. Apgar-Taylor's piece drew plenty of comments from opponents of marriage equality. Few were gracious:

Marriage is a commitment between opposite sex human that can truly make a comple (sic) and complimentary union. Male & female humans are meant for each other. Homosexuality is a choice of sex with same sex humans. 2 same sex humans make an off balanced couple. 2 opposite humans make a balanced couple. THAT is what marriage IS and should aleays (sic) be. Commitment makes a relationship it IS NOT a marriage!!!

Jack Wilson -- Rob would be on the mark if we lived in a Godless world with no Bible for instruction. Far better than Rob claiming to be a Pastor, he should admit that he made up his own religion and rules. Don't forget Rob, you can not say you believe some of the Bible. You either believe it or not. The religion you belong to is human secularism and it is absent of a true God and replaced with your own god that you have constructed in your image.

Paul clearly states that if someone claims to be a believer and is caught in sin then it is our job as believers to help restore them to the light. Homosexuality, in GOD's words, is an abomination. You might be born gay but you still have a choice to engage in it.

So if I'm born a child molestor (sic) thats?(sic) cool too? As long as I am honest with myself and don't "live a lie". Really?

Jerald J?-- That has nothing to do with a man living as a sexual deviant and calling himself a minister in the process! You can love people without being a party to their ugly perversion, and show me where you can't be!

Gov. O'malley was against gay marriage before he was for it. Folks its wrong, and in the governors case, it is all about getting the gay vote in Maryoand (sic). When the gay people adopt and put the children on welfare immeaditely (sic), it cost this nation. Remember we have to borrow 42 cents on the dollar from China to keep this nation afloat. Not to mention when they get divorced. Gay marriage is as wroing (sic) a child porn or child rape. It is wrong!!!!!!!!!! This is my opinion only....

This is a cult. The Bible says only opposite sex is godly.

Jerald J?-- Better yet, what is right about one man ripping another man's anus apart..in the name of "Equality?"

I don't even know how to respond to these statements. I had to stop after the last one. Trust me, it continued for quite some time.

I have been an ongoing discussion/debate over marriage protections for gay and lesbian couples for a few weeks now over at a discussion board that I used to visit quite a bit?more?in past years. I have no idea why I enter these debates. They just frustrate me and piss me off.

I have been told -- and I believe it -- that we will not make changes until people learn our stories and learn about us. Granted, I write a lot more here about things other than my family. But that was the general gist when I started this blog. But how do you respond when someone calls a minister a cultist who rips other anuses apart and is pretty much a child molester?

I guess you don't. Reach out to those people, that is. There will always be people who will never find anything of value or worth or blessedness in GLBT people or our families. We will never reach them. We need to reach out to cooler minds and hope that they eventually?stick up for our families at the ballot box even when they disagree with our families in principle.

What You May Not Give Consideration Concerning Affiliate Revenue

Running a successful online business can be a hard and tedious task, especially if you are having trouble gaining users and helping your website become popular and known. With the help of these tips/tricks, you will find yourself feeling more confident about yourself and your website, as well as the popularity of your site slowly increasing.

To maximize the money you make from your affiliate marketing program make sure that you present your information cleanly. You want to focus on the content and the advertising, not distracting your readers with other items to focus on. Ask yourself if you need each component and get rid of the ones that do not make you money.

You can spend forever planning the ideal web site ??? in terms of layout, color, images, tables, lists and so on and you will never get it off the ground. You cannot afford to wait until it is perfect. The solution is to set up your web site as soon as you can even if it is only 80% of where you want it to be, but ensure that the structure is right so that further improvements will be additional changes to your pages rather than a complete redesign.

To be treated fairly, you should avoid affiliate marketing companies that do not pay you a lot. You should compare offers and negotiate. You should expect a bonus of at least 20% on each product that you sell to a customer. Any company offering less is not treating you fairly.

Be sure that you not only know the product that you are promoting, but that you know the company that you are in business with. You need to be sure that they provide great customer service to the customers that you are referring to them so you do not get a bad reputation from them.

Consider building a site based around a product that will make a great gift. Internet traffic spikes at Christmas time. These visitors are looking and ready to make a purchase. Catering to these visitors is a great idea. You should also use SEO to improve your rankings at the right time for the shopping season.

Use ranking tools and software to research what works for your audience. Find out what ads and pages are gaining you customers. If a particular ad is not sending any traffic to your affiliate then get rid of it and try something new. Affiliate marketing requires constant tweaking to get to maximum effectiveness.

Experiment with a variety of different affiliate marketing programs, rather than just sticking with one. Different programs have different drawbacks and bonuses - for instance in the way they pay out, or the percentage of commission. Working with different vendors means that you will still have an income even if sales through any one vendor slows down. It?s worth taking the time to finding a spread of vendors whose products and program you feel enthusiastic about.

Do not get caught out advertising products for a merchant that will not ship to your website?s visitors. On the Internet it is easy to forget how big the world is, and not all of the affiliate marketing partners you can join up with ship all the way around that world. Do not waste time on an advertiser that cannot ship to countries where the majority of your visitors live.

Pride always comes before the fall, so make sure that you?re taking the time necessary to absorb and employ the tips you?ve learned throughout this article. Affiliate marketing is not a field you can enter into on a whim and expect to get lucky. It takes a lot of skill and knowledge. Remember that.

Beside writing articles about Affiliate Revenue, Lorenza Alderink also gives advice about Keyword Canine Bonus? on her blogs. To find out more about Cbpress Bonus, visit www.kingwarrior.info

(AP) ? A bomb blast outside a high school in southern Italy that killed a 16-year-old student has revived dark memories of the 70s and 80s, when terrorists, anarchists and organized crime carried out dozens of bloody attacks across the country.

Investigators had no firm clue Sunday of who was behind the attack and there was still no claim of responsibility a day after the crude device made up of gas cylinders exploded outside a mainly all-girls vocational school in the Adriatic port town of Brindisi.

The blast could be the work of an individual "angry with the world" said the prosecutor heading the investigation, Marco Dinapoli.

"It is not impossible that a person acting alone did all the organization," he said, adding that the person would have needed some weapons training to assemble the device and set it off by remote control.

The prosecutor indicated that a nearby closed-circuit security camera had captured images of the alleged attacker.

An anti-Mafia magistrate, Cataldo Motta, said Saturday that although it didn't appear that local organized crime gangs were behind the attack, it was too early to reach conclusions.

Killed in the blast was Melissa Bassi, who friends say dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. The condition of four other young women, all schoolmates and hospitalized with burns, was reported Sunday to be improving.

The mainly all-girls Francesca Laura Morvillo Falcone vocational institute is named after a judge who was killed alongside her prosecutor husband, anti-Mafia hero Giovanni Falcone, in a highway bombing in Sicily, exactly 20 years ago, leading some to think the mob may be responsible.

Interior Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri, in charge of domestic security, said she was "struck" by the fact that the school was named after the judge, but she cautioned that investigators at that point had "no elements" to blame the school attack on organized crime.

The bombing follows a spate of recent attacks against Italian officials and government or public buildings by a group of anarchists, including the shooting and wounding of an official from a nuclear engineering firm, which is part of a state-controlled company. An anti-nuclear anarchist group that previously had targeted Italy's tax collection agency claimed responsibility for the shooting.

The attacks and threats lodged against authorities prompted the government on Friday to assign bodyguards to 550 individuals, and deploy 16,000 law enforcement officers nationwide.

"But you can't militarize the country," the interior minister said.

Italy coped with a severe terrorism outbreak in the 1970s and 1980s ? known as the "years of lead." In the worst attack, blamed on right-wing terrorists, 85 people were killed in a bomb blast at the Bologna train station in 1980. A Mafia terror campaign targeted churches and public buildings in Rome and Milan.

Corrriere della Sera, Italy's leading newspaper, said the government and investigators needed answers as soon as possible to avoid the country reliving the "fantasy of the strategy of tension."

(AP) ? Azahara Munoz of Spain defeated Morgan Pressel 2 and 1 in the semifinals of the Sybase Match Play Championship Sunday after a slow-play penalty against the American on the 12th hole turned the match, casting a shadow on the $1.5 million event.

Munoz will play veteran Candie Kung in the title match. Kung beat Vicky Hurst 2 and 1 in the other semifinal of an event that now is shrouded with controversy.

Pressel had won the 12th hole at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club to go 3 up and seemingly was in command with six holes to play.

On the 13th tee, LPGA official and match timer Doug Brecht told the 23-year-old Pressel that she had violated the tour's pace of play by taking 2:09 to play her three shots at the par-3. That was 39 seconds over the allotted 90 seconds allowed; the penalty in match play is the loss of a hole. Munoz and Pressel had been warned about slow play after the ninth hole.

Pressel, seeking her first tour win since 2008, appealed to referee Marty Robinson before her next tee shot, but the penalty stood and her lead went from 3 up to 1 up.

Munoz evened the match with a 10-to-15 foot birdie at No. 15, a stroke that was delayed when Pressel contended the Spaniard touched the line of her putt before striking the ball.

Robinson had two committee officials away from the 15th review the videotape of the one camera angle they had of the hole. Robinson said they could not see any evidence of a rule being broken. Munoz then made her putt.

Pressel lost the match when she bogeyed the next two holes, missing a 3-foot par saver at No. 17.

Pressel refused to be interviewed by an on-course television reporter after the match. An Associated Press photographer heard her tell the reporter "Not a chance" when he asked for an interview.

Munoz was in tears while being interviewed after the match against her friend.

"It's an unfortunate situation," said Heather Daly-Donofrio, the senior vice president of tour operations. "This is one of those days where it is very tough to be an LPGA official. It's not an easy thing to deliver a pace of play penalty to a player in a situation like this."

Daly-Donofrio said two other players have been penalized for slow play this year compared to five all last year. Pressel was the only one disciplined in this tournament, although two others face fines for slow play.

When asked about officials deciding events instead of the players, Daly-Donofrio said that USGA rules have to be upheld. Rule 6-7 says players must play without such delays and it's up to the tour to apply its policy.

Daly-Donofrio said slow play is a concern throughout golf, which was evident on the PGA Tour last week when Kevin Na was very slow at The Players Championship.

Munoz, a 24-year-old NCAA champion who is the 19th seed, is looking for her first LPGA Tour win. She was 2 down after nine holes.

The 49th-seeded Kung, who hasn't won since 2008, was 3 up after 12 holes before securing the win with a birdie at No. 17. The Taiwan native ousted No. 1 ranked Yani Tseng in the third round.

The title match is Sunday afternoon, while Pressel has to face Hurst in an All-American match for third place.
